TOPIC: Adding Services for a New Host

Adding Services for a New Host 1 Year, 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Having tried both fruity and Lilac, I'm very impressed with NagiosQL which I've found to be much easier to install and use.

I do have one question though.

Currently, when I add a new host to be monitored I have to go through each service I want to monitor on it individually and add the new host to each one. This is a pain when you have lots of services you want monitored on that particular host (unless I'm missing something here - please let me know if there is a better way to do this already).

What would be far easier, of course, would be some kind of facility where I can pick from the list of services I have configured and add the ones I want to a host in one go.

Ideally there would be a box in the Host setup screen where you can choose which services are associated with that host.

Is this something that NagiosQL could possibly do?

Cheers,
Mark

Up to now, NagiosQL is a 1:1 mirror of the standard configuration files. When you add a host manually to your standardfile, you also have to edit every service file to insert that host.

For 3.1 we think about some improvements like that.

Actually, you can use a service template for your services an add a new host to that template. In this way it will be added to all services which are using the template.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate that this is the way that Nagios works and if something that works around it can be added to version 3.1 of NagiosQL that would be great - it's the only thing I can really think of that stops NagiosQL being the perfect front end for my purposes at the moment.

The templates thing could save me a bit of time as I suppose there are two or three services (CPU, memory, uptime) that all of them use, but it's very rare for two of my machines to share exactly the same services unfortunately.

For us, this would be a great improvement too. Can you say anything about a releasedate for 3.1?
