NagiosQL install problems / some questions 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Hello all,

I'm new here and recently learned how to start and configure Nagios. Add systems / routers and such. I would like start to use NagiosQL now but I am having some problems and questions.

I created a couple of maps for NagiosQL: hosts, services and backup. I placed the maps in /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/ because this is where my Nagios and config files are stored.

1. The windows server I monitor and services Nagios uses to monitor it are in the same file: windows-client.cfg. Is it ok to have them in the same file? And more importantly: Do I have to place this file into the host map I created for NagiosQL or can i keep it in the map Nagios created in the first place: /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects and just import it later on?

2. According to the guide I need to "amend" my nagios.cfg file. Can't I keep the contactgroups.cfg, contacts.cfg, timeperiods.cfg and commands.cfg in the /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects directory? And again, import them later on? And, I can't find: the hostgroups.cfg, servicegroups.cfg, hosts and services lines in the nagios.cfg file. Do I need to add these?

I very much appreciate any help I get.

Hi,
question #1 it doesn´t mader where you store you checks. i use differnet files per "OS" or per "Application".
question #2 - check the nagios.cfg file. You should have lines like this - for a FILE:
cfg_file=/usr/local/nagios/etc/servicetemplates.cfg
lines like this - for a DIRECTORY
cfg_dir=/usr/local/nagios/etc/serviceext

In generall, i recommend to start with the nagios default setting. Check them and compare it, if you will enable start with nagiosql.

best regards
Ralf

Hi Ralf,

Thanks for the information. Does this meen I dont have to create the "Hosts", "Services" and "Backup" folders? I will try installing NagiosQL with a standard Nagios configuration then.

Wish me luck!

Ok guys,

1. Do I need to create a import map and place my windows-client.cfg etc in there? Will NagiosQL then place it in the hosts map? because the windows server and its services (check_ etc) are in 1 file?

This all may sound newb, but that's because I am ofcourse. Still, I need to get this done for a company and really want to learn it.

2. Also, in the list of files that I can import, NagiosQL shows each file twice. One time without "~" and one time with "~" at the end. Wich one do I need to import?

I very much appreciate any help I get.

PS: Ofcourse I am constantly trying so some questions may disapear overtime.
