Having issue with Nagios restart

Having issue with Nagios restart 1 Year ago Karma: 0
When ever I restart the nagios it stop monitoring for that day since the time of restart. I couldn't able to find any options to trouble shoot this. What I found in document is when ever there is restart it resets all the stats data. Could guys advice me what I have to do for this?.

just a glimpse: maybe you have to look for retain status information.

Even if I retain the states, main question is how do I make nagios to continue monitoring since restarting?.

Maybe I am missunderstanding you. To summarize:

- Nagios is restarted
- Nagios is starting with no history about any object

If that happens, I would recommend to check if your nagios status file:


Example: status_file=/usr/local/nagios/var/status.dat

This is the file that Nagios uses to store the current status, comment, and downtime information. This file is used by the CGIs so that current monitoring status can be reported via a web interface. The CGIs must have read access to this file in order to function properly. This file is deleted every time Nagios stops and recreated when it starts.

What you explained is right rouven. But my question is how do I make nagios to continue with previous status.dat file after restart?.
