[solved] How does the Domain relate to remote se.. 9 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi,

I am new to Nagiosql & want to use it in our 'Intranet System' for monitoring nodes. The system is a distributed system with VPN tunnels over WAN to gateways with a single LAN. The way Nagiosql is designed fits like 'hand in a glove' with our own web application. We intend to integrate Nagiosql so that everytime we do changes to the network, Nagiosql will be told & configurations done automaticly. To save some time I want to ask for help on how to do this, & the 1st step will be to get to know the Nagiosql. The first question whould be on domains & how it can be managed from the master Nagiosql server. Any documentation out there?

I'm not quite sure, if you got this right (or maybe I'm mistaken here).

For every Nagiosserver you have, you need to set up one domain in your NagioSQL. These domains are seperated from each other, so changes in one domain don't do anything to other domains. So this means, you even need to define check commands in every domain.

In your case: if you do changes to your infrastructure, you have to apply these to those domains, which are affected by your changes.

Hi,

Wow, that was fast..

YES, I know that every domain is seperate & reflect the remote nagios installation. My question will be on how it is implemented.

EX. Consider two nagios servers.

1. Local host -> name lhost
2. Remote host -> name rhost

The nagiosql runs on lhost: /usr/local/nagios3
Every server has the same nagios installation & configuration: /usr/local/nagios

The domain asks you for the hosts & services directory. The documentation advise me to use seperate hosts & service directories so I choose:

/usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/hosts & services

Hos can I distibguish between lhost & rhost files when they are generated from Nagiosql?

For your remote-host, you will have to set foldersettings too.

So you can choose different foldes for every domain or what ever you want.

Nagiosql will put the configfiles for each domain in the folder configured for this domain.

Hi there, This Forum really rocks..

Is this assumption correct:

1. On my lhost: Nagiosql hosts dir for lhost itself = /usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/lhost/hosts & services.
This directory must also be set in nagios.cfg on lhost so that nagios finds the new files?

2. On my lhost: Nagiosql storage for rhost can be:
/usr/local/nagios/etc/objects/rhost/hosts & services
This directory must also exsist on the rhost & nagios.cfg on rhost must have this as well?

Sorry, but I am a little confuse on how the FTP works when I transfer the new files to rhost.

It seems the new forum software is bugged and scramble the posts

1. You have to add a second domain for your rhost.

2. The settings for your lhost are in your localhost domain

3. The settings for your rhost are in the new created second domain.

It is not necessary to select ftp for your second domain, if you use nfs or something similar, just select "Filesystem" insteed of FTP and write the path to your nfs share to the path fields.
